Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training

It all started when…

I was recruited by the University of Rochester Medical Center to bring Theatre for Healthcare Equity to their new Office of Equity and Inclusion. I soon began teaching classes on Implicit Bias and Microaggressions and then creating lessons on Power and Privilege and Allyship. I integrate theatre and other interactive techniques with more didactic methods to bring difficult topics to light among working groups.

I love when participants have ‘ah-ha’ moments about what the term white privilege actually means or when an employee who has been marginalized finally has the space to share their story. In my workshops I strive to offer a place where people can have difficult conversations and learn skills to identify and name inequities in their departments. This work is grueling and time-consuming and slow, but there is no other way to make culture change than to keep pressing against the status quo bit by bit.
